Key College’s City & Guilds Entry 3 & Level 1 Introduction to the Hospitality Industry Study Programme
Key College’s Study Programme in Hospitality and Catering is a free 34 week course for those aged 16 to 18 (19 to 24 in some cases) leading to a recognised qualification in Hospitality and Catering from City and Guilds. This is a roll-on, roll-off course on which you can enrol in any week of the year.
This course will help you to gain the skills that you need to work in the catering industry. You will earn lots of new and exciting practical skills in a well equipped kitchen, with well trained, supportive staff. You will work to improve English, Maths and ICT. We will work with you to improve areas of personal skills: managing money, leisure and health. This course covers all the basic duties you will need to know how to perform to become a chef, from maintaining a safe place of work to preparing and baking food items; students are taught the fundamentals about catering and are assessed over 9 units.
The course is designed for those students who have an interest in working in the hospitality and catering industry. The qualification is designed to develop practical skills and an understanding of the hospitality and catering industry. You will have the opportunity to work in a real life, customer-facing environment where you will prepare and serve food and in some instances you will have the opportunity to take part in a two week work experience programme.
The course covers:
- Maintaining a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
- Contributing to effective teamwork
- Maintaining food safety when storing preparing and cooking food
- Developing skills to prepare, cook and present a variety of foods
It is delivered over three days a week and includes qualifications in employability and personal development, maths and English. You will benefit from one to one support, small class sizes and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There will also be the opportunity to take part in work experience. You may be eligilbe for a bursary. At the end of the programme you will gain accredited qualifications that can give you the edge in today’s competitive job market and an ideal platform for further training.
It is delivered from our training kitchen in Derby, and will equip you with a wide range of career-focused skills.
